Africa Oikotree Yenga Foundation

The Africa Oikotree Yenga Foundation (AOYF) is a registered pan-African organization dedicated to addressing economicjustice, poverty eradication, and sustainable infrastructure.

AOYF partners with institutions to promote human rights, good governance, and environmental resilience, ensuring African communities benefit directly from the continent’s development and natural resource wealth.

The word "Oikotree" is briefly coined from two words that are "oikos" and "Tree".

However, AOYF reminds us that the power of the Greco word Oikos (household), which forms the etymological root of the requests for economic justice in Africa (amidst the inequality and multiple injustices, conflicts, corruption, impunity that characterize the current neoliberal economic order), ecological Sustainability in Africa (amidst the destruction of the ecosystems through wars, conflicts, refugees and internally Displaced Persons, pollution, environmental degradation, and poverty), and ecumenical Fellowship in Africa (amidst the many denominational theological divisions that characterize Christianity in Africa and the world).

Biblical Principles of AOYF

The Africa Oikotree Yenga Foundation (AOYF) is dedicated to social justice, good governance, and economic equity across Africa.
Grounded in ecumenical Oikotheology (the theology of the household of God), its principles intersect with Biblical themes of justice and creation care:

  • Solidarity and Community

    AOYF emphasizes the Ubuntu philosophy and the interconnectedness of humanity. This mirrors the New Testament emphasis on mutual support, radical sharing, and community cohesion (Acts 2:44-45; 1 Corinthians 12:26).

  • Good Governance and Accountability

    AOYF promotes ethical leadership and transparency. In Biblical terms, this aligns with the principle that leaders are accountable to God to administer justice impartially.

  • Social and Economic Justice

    Rooted in prophetic theology, AOYF champions the Biblical call to defend the poor, the marginalized, and the historically oppressed. This reflects scriptural commands against economic exploitation (Proverbs 22:16).

  • Stewardship of Creation and Resources

    Inspired by Biblical mandates to care for the earth, AOYF advocates that Africa’s natural and mineral resources (especially in the countries like South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo: DRC) should be managed equitably and utilized to eliminate poverty rather than exploited by foreign entities.

Dr. Nana Yenga Baltahazar
Director/Chairperson

Dr. Nana Yenga Baltahazar is an independent researcher from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), thought leader, and the visionary founder of the "Africa Oikotree Yenga Foundation (AOYF).

His doctoral research project on "African Oikotheology" provides him a strong foundation for a career focused on the interconnection of Theology, ecology, economics, environmental justice, and community development in African context.
